The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra’s 2016 “Ode to Joy” concert, honoring a milestone in musical achievement. Ode to Joy Sioux City Symphony Orchestra 100th Year premiered on statewide IPTV
The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra (SCSO) celebrates its 100th anniversary this year with a season of great performances. The landmark series tops a century of musical excellence and community enrichment with a concert featuring Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “Lincoln Portrait.” The historic evening ends with nearly 400 choral musicians joining the orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy.”
IPTV’s coverage of the Ode to Joy Sioux City Symphony Orchestra 100th Year program will include interviews with SCSO Music Director and Conductor Ryan Haskins, Executive Director Mark Francis and acclaimed tenor John Osborn.
Over the last century, the SCSO has evolved from a 30-piece college ensemble to a 90-member professional orchestra. The Sioux City Symphony is a regional orchestra attracting musicians from across Iowa, neighbouring states and beyond.
The “Ode to Joy” concert took place on April 16, 2016, at the Orpheum Theatre. The opulent theatre, constructed in 1927, features the SCSO along with top international stars and Broadway shows.
