Be transported to the “Roaring Twenties” as Maestro Haskins leads his musicians through a powerful display of color, rhythms, and harmonies in Maurice Ravel’s intoxicating Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2. Acclaimed pianist, Inon Barnatan makes his SCSO debut with George Gershwin’s jazz-infused Concerto in F, originally called the New York Concerto. Also featured on the program is Duke Ellington’s Harlem for jazz symphony. Opening Night concludes with Gershwin’s ever-popular impressionistic rhapsody An American in Paris.
